World Cup Legends is a top-down 11-a-side football game and a full career mode, all packed into a single browser page. Pick from 184 real nations, each with its own squad strength, or make up your own country from scratch. You paint its flag pixel by pixel and choose the kit colours, and that exact flag flies in the stadiums, shows up on the scoreboards, and follows you through the bracket.

You are the ball

You don't control one fixed player. You play as whoever has the ball. Complete a pass and you instantly become the guy who receives it. Lose it to an interception and you're stuck as the player who kicked it, so you've got to chase back and win it again. Your man wears a gold ring and a name tag so you never lose him. Aim with the mouse, hold to charge up a shot, bend curveballs around the wall, lob the keeper, sprint until your stamina runs dry, and time your tackles. Get a slide wrong and you're looking at a free kick or a yellow card.

A real tournament, start to finish

Every run kick off at qualification and works its way through the group stage and a full knockout bracket to the final. Group games run 90 minutes and can go either way, win, lose or draw. Knockouts and qualifiers are do-or-die, so if you're level after 90 you head to extra time, and if that settles nothing, penalties. Refs call offside and fouls too. The whole rulebook is live out on the pitch.

Build a squad that sticks around

Draft your squad, set a formation, and drag players around on the live tactics map. Goals, assists, wins and clean sheets earn XP, and levelling up gives you skill points to grow your players. Everyone signs for one to three World Cups, so your ageing legends eventually run out of contract and walk away. Every four-year cycle you're rebuilding, retraining, and defending your title with the players you've got left.

Plenty of accessibility options: reduced motion, high contrast with shape-coded teams, large text, slower game speed, optional aim assist, sound toggles, and adjustable match length (2½, 4 or 6 minutes).
